The Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8040A12 launched in 2022 as the midrange boutique gaming PC from CyberpowerPC and is part of a family of customizable gaming PCs, including some like the CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8080A34 (2023) that feature some of the most powerful components in the market – if you can afford it.
This is an affordable route to owning one of the best gaming PCs on the market without having to build it yourself. While building your gaming PC is the best way of getting a high-performance PC for minimal cost, not everyone has the skill to do that. Even those that do may not have the time to research individual components or to assemble and configure the system from scratch. Again, component prices especially Nvidia GPUs have been high lately, so boutique-built machines make lots of economic sense.
Therefore, if you’re someone who needs a faster and more powerful system than what mainstream builders like Dell and HP are offering, boutique vendors like CyberpowerPC have you covered well.
Is CyberpowerPC a good brand?
CyberPowerPC is a popular brand that specializes in building custom gaming PCs, and they have created a strong reputation for creating high-performance systems at reasonable prices. We’ve reviewed lots of their PCs, and so far, we can vouch for them in terms of performance, reliability, and customization options.
The Gamer Xtreme Series is the company’s most popular line of gaming PCs, and from experience, the units we’ve reviewed offer excellent value for the buck. Whether or not CyberpowerPC is a good brand in terms of gaming certainly depends on your specific gaming needs and preferences. If all you need is a pre-built gaming PC that offers tremendous value for your buck, CyberpowerPC’s machine won’t miss the target.
The company offers a range of gaming PCs with different configurations to suit different budgets and performance needs, and you can be assured of their flagship systems handling the latest games and graphics-intensive applications. Currently, they have some top-tier machines to compete with very high-end gaming PCs, packing the latest Intel and Nvidia/AMD hardware, but midrange options like the GXiVR8040A12 we’re reviewing remain powerful for playing most games at high settings.
Design and Features
The GXiVR8040A12 uses a CyberPowerPC ONYXIA II case, that features a glass front panel with three RGB circles, a tempered glass side panel, and a cooling fan at the back. It measures 23 x 22 x 12.5 inches and weighs 33.5 pounds, and has enough space for future upgrades when needed. To access the system’s internal components, you just need to remove the transparent side panel that’s held in place by thumbscrews, and you’re done.
Port selection is decent, but not excellent since the machine lacks a USB Type-C port that’s becoming standard in both laptops and desktop PCs. Front access ports are located on the top of the machine, they include two USB Type-A ports, microphone jacks, a headphone jack, a power button, a reset button, and a drive activity light-up.
Around the back, there are additional six USB ports, two legacy PS/2 ports for older mice/keyboards, and audio jacks. On the GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card, there are DisplayPort and HDMI connections for multi-monitor setups.
Gaming Performance
Gaming on the RTX 3060 (12GB) is good enough for starters, but I feel it’s a little tight for pro gamers or anyone looking to play modern titles at anything above 1080p. For the price, we feel CyberPowerPC would’ve included an RTX 3070 or RTX 3070 Ti graphics card like what rivals are offering. Take, for example, the iBUYPOWER SlateMono 237i, a similarly designed gaming desktop that offers better components including a 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700KF processor and a GeForce RTX 3070 Ti GPU, that make it an impressive pre-built PC now and in the future.
That’s not to say the CyberpowerPC Gamer Supreme GXiVR8040A12 is a bad machine, there are even other configurations with the RTX 3070 Ti GPU and even higher, but I just feel it would offer a better GPU for the price. In real-world gaming, you’re assured of over 60 fps at high settings, which should be enough for casual gaming. Played at 1080p high settings, Forza Horizon 5 reaches 110 fps, Far Cry 6 averages 102 fps, while Cyberpunk 2077 hits 70 fps – quite acceptable for an entry-level gaming machine.

Productivity performance is great too, thanks to the 12th-Gen Intel Core i7-12700F processor used in the CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8040A12, alongside 16GB RAM and 1TB NVMe SSD storage. While CyberPowerPC sells this machine as a gaming rig, it will sit well in your home office as a productivity hub, provided you don’t mind the RGBs on the case. Given the mid-tier processor used here, you can run intensive tasks such as video editing, media creation, and other productivity tasks without slowing down.
Again, the Gamer Supreme GXiVR8040A12’s 1TB solid-state drive is speedy enough, meaning you can transfer your large files in a few minutes. The solid-state drive and RAM are upgradeable should you need more space and speed to store your documents, game files, photos, and videos. The HP Envy TE02-0042 offers the same 1TB SSD storage, but comes with a more powerful Intel Core i9-12900 and offers excellent connectivity including USB-Type-C with Thunderbolt 4, for around the same price.
Bottom Line
The CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8040A12 is a great midrange custom-built machine, that’s a perfect fit for anyone looking for decent 1080p gaming performance without spending an arm and a leg. While it’s billed as a gaming machine, its gaming credentials are impressive, and makes a lot of sense compared to building a system with similar specs from scratch.
If you need a gaming PC mainly for eSports purposes, the GXiVR8040A12 is one of the best machines around. At 1080p, this gaming desktop can handle popular AA titles including Doom Eternal, Gears 5, and the like at mid-to-high settings.
That said, if you’re not on a tight budget and need the latest hardware in a stylish design, CyberpowerPC’s Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8080A34 is an excellent choice. In addition to a sleek design, it arrives with a 13th Gen Intel Core I9-13900KF CPU, Nvidia’s flagship RTX 4070 Ti graphics card, 16 GB DDR5 RAM, and 1TB SSD storage at a very reasonable price, compared to peers equipped with the RTX 40 Series cards. It’s our newest Editors’ Choice for midrange, pre-built gaming PCs.
