Every once in a while, a nifty gadget pops up on TikTok and disrupts the IOT… in most cases, those products are not from major brands nor cost an arm and a leg. Last year, we had the Bissell Little Green (1400B) dominate the airwaves, the NEGG Boiled Egg Peeler on this list, and for 2024, the Fullstar Vegetable Chopper is the ultimate gadget across TitTok and Instagram. This tiny kitchen appliance doesn’t look like much, it costs pennies, but what makes it such a sensation on the socials? Let’s find out!
The Fullstar Vegetable is a kitchen hack for pesky knife work as it can cut, slice, spiralize, and dice all manner of vegetables in a snap, and everything falls into one container for that instant chopped salad and stir-fry prep. It seems like a great way to healthy eating, and it makes everything more fun and convenient.
What is a vegetable chopper?
As the name says, a vegetable chopper is used for processing your veggies, and there are plenty of options out there that help slice, dice, cut, and chop vegetables and other ingredients into uniform pieces directly into a collection tray.
Most choppers come with self-contained, clear-glass or plastic containers and interchangeable blades. The most popular brands online include Fullstar and Mueller, which also come with grating and slicing blades. They are straightforward to use, but it may take a few runs to get the hang of the vegetable chopper, get familiar with all the various blades, and how to change the attachments.
A veggie chopper is especially great for small kitchens, as well as for people who cook for one or want to make quick and easy meals with fresh whole foods. Preparing veggies and chopped salads for a stir fry are quick fixes for which this tool is made.
To a certain level, a vegetable chopper replaces the chopping board, although you still need to peel ingredients like garlic, onions, and carrots before using the veggie chopper for slicing or dicing. Common vegetables like cucumbers, mushrooms, zucchini, potatoes, peppers, and celery can all be chopped with ease. All you need to do is cut them into small enough pieces to fit in the square chopper beforehand.
What’s So Great About the Fullstar Vegetable Chopper?
It’s the perfect tool for chopping onions.
While the Fullstar Vegetable Chopper can be used with different veggies, it’s most ideal for chopping onions. It comes with two blades for dicing – a small dice and a large dice blade. The sturdy metal blades can slice through hard and soft vegetables, including potatoes and carrots, with ease – but it shines on chopping onions.
If you find yourself chopping onions frequently, you may find this chopper worth buying just for that job alone. It does an excellent job chopping onions quickly and easily, turning them into perfectly chopped and diced pieces. You’ll still need a knife to cut the onions and other big fruits and veggies into smaller pieces, but you won’t need any extra knife skills.
It makes you a master of salads and bowls.
If you frequently prepare salads or just love salads, the Fullstar Vegetable Chopper is a great addition to your kitchen. This veggie chopper can be used to prep cucumbers, celery, lettuce, tomatoes, bell peppers, and other veggies you’d need for your protein and grain bowls. You’ll love how quick and easy it is to use to prep raw vegetables, salsas, and sauces.
It’s easy to use and clean.
If you’re a person who loves to cook but will stay clear of certain dishes because of the prep time involved, the Fullstar Vegetable Chopper might refresh your excitement and creativity in the kitchen. It’s simply fun and easy to use.
Beyond use, cleanup is pretty easy, and it can be washed in the dishwasher or by hand. While some reviewers have said it’s difficult to clean, I don’t believe so; though it does require special handling and tools, all those are included.
To wash it by hand, use the included tools – two brushes and two scrapers – that come with the set. The scraping tools can remove food from the pusher insert; the large brush removes food remains from the large and small dice blades, and the small brush cleans the spiralizer and slicer blades.
What We Don’t Like
The dice blades can pulverize softer vegetables.
Fullstar says that the small dice blade is designed for use on onions, zucchini, chilies, garlic, mushrooms, soft cheeses, and more. But during use, it pulverizes bell peppers and overly ripe tomatoes, leaving a huge mushy mess behind instead of a container full of perfectly diced tomatoes.
However, once you get the hang of how it works, you can successfully full the Fullstar to chop bell peppers and tomatoes…you just have to be accurate with closing the lid when dicing tomatoes and bell peppers. The same applies to chopping things like cheeses and cured meats, which might turn out more mashed than cut.
With some experimenting, you’ll quickly learn which foods work well with the Fullstar Vegetable Chopper and which foods are best prepared using a knife and a chopping board, especially fresh herbs.
Fullstar Vegetable Chopper Review | Verdict
The Fullstar Vegetable Chopper is easily a favorite kitchen gadget despite a few downsides. While the spiralizer and ribbon blades don’t offer much functionality, the large and small dice blades are excellent, and the easy cleanup and creativity this veggie chopper inspires give it tremendous value.
Anyone looking to step up their meal prep game should seriously consider the Fullstar Vegetable Chopper; it makes meal prep exciting and a breeze (from salads and bowls to soups, stews, curries, and chilis). It inspires some serious creativity, and the fact that it’s easy to use and clean makes it worthwhile.
Overall, the Fullstar Vegetable Chopper is such a useful meal prep, too. It won’t replace knives and peelers, but it’s an excellent addition to any modern kitchen.
