About TCL TVs
TCL is one of the popular names around when it comes to budget TVs, especially in the US. This brand often competes with other budget brands like Hisense, Insignia, Amazon, and Toshiba; and like them TCL offers a wide range of TVS at different sizes and price points, packing different technology and features. What all these brands have in common is incredibly affordable price tags compared to the ones attached to more popular TV brands – your Sonys, Samsungs, and LGs, for example.
We’ve reviewed some TCL TVs at ARS Guide (I reviewed the 55-inch TCL 55S555 a few weeks ago), though even with the ones that we’ve not reviewed, there’s still something to like and learn from their spec sheets. Across the US and the UK, TCL TVs are serious competitors in the budget TV category – especially during peak shopping periods where TCL deals as sure as night turns into day. You’ll often find TCL panels with competitive features and specs sold at not just competitive prices but some of the lowest around.
On specs, TCL TVs may not be the best for gamers, largely opting out of top-tier features like VRR or 120Hz at budget prices, but these features are available on some of TCL’s flagship models. High-end gaming features usually come with higher-end price tags, but you’re assured TCL TVs will have no trouble with casual gaming, especially if you’re still playing on ps4 OR Xbox One.
In general, premium TVs that run up into the thousands and support Mini LED tech or 8K like the TCL QM8 QLED (75QM850G) might be hard to justify when you can alternatively opt for sets from popular brands like Sony or LG that come with proven OLED displays, or Samsung QLED TVs. But the budget and mid-range TCL TVs offer like the TCL Q6 QLED (55Q650F, 2023 Model) are usually tough to beat in terms in terms of value.
TCL Q6 QLED (55Q650F, 2023 Model) Specs
For 2023, TCL has revamped its lineup, ditching the all-familiar 5-Series and 6-Series for S Class and Q Class with the Qs offering more features. Within the Q Class, there are three tiers: Q6 which features a QLED screen; Q7, which packs a smoother 120Hz refresh rate; and QM8, with mini-LED backlighting. The TCL 55Q650F belongs to the base model, and it essentially replaces the 5-Series that we considered the best TV of the budget bunch last year. It’s still a solid bargain, but the competition is finally catching up.

At the TCL 55Q650F’s discounted price, you’ll enjoy 4K sharpness on a large quantum-dot LED screen. A few years ago, that could have cost you twice as much. The specs on the TCL Q6 and last year’s 5-Series are very similar. You’re getting Dolby Atmos sound support and you can get an 85-inch model if you want to go ridiculously bi. The TCL 55Q650F has three HDMI ports instead of four on the 5-Series and features the same 60Hz QLED screen that came with the TCL 5-Series. Other features include:
- Fire TV Built-in: The TCL 55Q650F comes with Amazon’s smart TV hub that gives you access to Netflix, Prime, web browsing, and more streaming channels.
- Auto Game Mode (ALLM): The TV automatically adjusts settings to offer low latency when gaming on consoles and TVs.
- Impressive color for the cost: With QLED technology and a UHD color gamut, this TV produces a beautiful, bright picture.
- Smooth picture for gaming: A 120Hz refresh rate makes for a smooth experience in action movies, sports, and gaming.
- Voice control: This TV comes with Alexa smart control for linking with home devices and launching apps and content.
Is this TCL 55Q60F Fire TV deal worth it?
If you’re looking for a good overall viewing experience without spending a lot of money, the TCL 55Q60F is a great choice. With its good color reproduction, the image on the screen looks fine, especially for HDR content.
Of course, there are other choices for affordable TVs, including the Hisense U6K, which features mini-LED backlighting for improved contrast, but it cost slightly more; so in the meantime, if you want a large 4K TV for a low price, the TCL Q6 Fire Tv won’t disappoint.
