Now than ever, it is difficult in the tech sphere to find something simple. Every manufacturer is attempting to outdo the competition with extra functions, edged customizations and newer features, something that’s very clear in the VicTsing MM057 wireless mouse. In the world of computer peripherals, especially mice, a horde of features is now commonplace. Sure, it is possible to find simple and inexpensive models, but they’re either wonky or short lived, and sometimes both.
The VicTsing MM057 is a basic wireless mouse that lacks the fair of most expensive offerings, but gets the job done well. For everyday use while on the move, it is a masterpiece of simplicity done right, and is our top pick for a general-purpose mouse.
Design
The MM057 is a very compact wireless mouse that clads its bare-bones design in an asymmetrical shape, then adds a rubber grip for comfort. Personally, I prefer my mouse black, but you get a variety of color to choose from (blue, black, grey, silver, white, red, pink –name them all), and it does feel great for the price. It doesn’t have the whistles you’d find on gamer-centric mice: just right and left buttons, a clickable scroll wheel and a CPI button, giving it a simple, nice look.
I know some expected at least one programmable feature, but this is simply a mouse designed for the many users who want basic functionality. If you need a bit of complexity, perhaps you’d look at the Microsoft Sculpt Mobile Mouse, at least it has one programmable button, otherwise, most mice with a wide feature set cost more, like the Corsair M65 RGB Gaming mouse. Luckily, it adds back/forward buttons on the left flank, which is a worth inclusion.
Our review unit sports a black profile, with a plastic top and a rubberized grip running around the sides. The rubber grips are ‘teary’ patterns embossed on the rubber pad, with a thumb cradle on the left and a shy thumb rest on the back. Measuring 2 by 3.1 by 4.5 inches (HWD) and weighing just 3.2 ounces, this is a mouse meant to be used with just fingers and not supporting your entire arm.
Performance
The VicTsing MM057 is a plug-and-play mouse, so, you don’t have to install any software for you to use it. It is versatile enough, and works on all platforms, meaning it works well with Windows (10/8/7/Vista), Mac OS X (10.5 or later), Chrome OS, and Linux. It is small and light to use, though not small enough to be considered a travel mouse. The size is fine with any commuter who can slip it into a bag occasionally.
Like most modern mice, it focuses on performance which is the reason you have an included CPI button. Alongside the 2.4GHz wireless technology that can cover up to 33 feet, the mouse has five adjustable CPI (800, 1200, 1600, 2000, and 2400) and; two polling rates (125Hz and 250Hz), which allows you adjust cursor sensitivity accordingly.
It connects wirelessly via a nano receiver that can be stored at the back of the mouse, and is small enough to be plugged into the side of the laptop, and can be left plugged in when you pack and move. It is powered by a single AA battery (not included), but you won’t be replacing it quite often, VicTsing claim it can last for about 15 months.
It uses a smart sleep feature that automatically shuts it off when not in use for 8 minutes, and you just need to press any button to wake it up. Apparently, I couldn’t ascertain the 15-months battery life claim, but the automatic sleep and wake function point towards some power saving.
A Simple, Inexpensive Mouse
The VicTsing MM057 2.4G Wireless Mouse is the perfect symbol of simplicity, but it offers a high-quality design and an attractive low price, It may not have all the power features you’d expect of a power use mouse, like the Logitech MX Master 2S, but the affordable price and refreshed design make it a well worth choice for anyone looking for a perfect mouse for everyday use.
